Unique Family Vacation Idea in Southeast Tennessee: Tiny House Edition

Southeast Tennessee in the Spring is a site to behold with pastel blooms all around and gorgeous weather. It offers the perfect camping opportunity for families who are looking to get out into nature but don't want to "rough it". My youngest is not a fan of bugs. He takes after me, so we like glamping. What is glamping? It’s camping in a more luxurious setting, but still radiating camping vibes.

There is a hidden gem about thirty minutes away from Chattanooga, that boasts serene woodlands and lovely lakefront views while still being able to day trip to the city. Nestled on the top of the Cumberland Plateau, is a little town called Tracy City, Tn. Here you can find a luxurious tiny home community called the Retreat at Deer Lick Falls and Water’s Edge. These two communities sit on Big Fiery Gizzard Creek.

These communities offer stone firepits with Adirondack chairs, gas grills, large porches with gas fire tables, and tastefully decorated one-, two- and three-bedroom tiny homes. Some of these are located right on the lake but others are hidden away in the woods for a more secluded feel. My family and I have stayed here several times and have never been disappointed.

Book your tiny home adventure here:

My favorite part, is first thing in the morning, opening the French doors that lead to the large porch and lighting up the fire table. Sinking into one of the large-cushioned chairs with a cup of coffee and enjoying the sights and sounds of the woods.  The perfect way to relax and be in nature. The kitchens are fully stocked with everything you need to cook or grill. Make sure to stop by the fancy Piggly Wiggly that has gourmet ingredients for a grilled masterpiece while you enjoy your delightfully designed outdoor space.                 Tracy City has a little bit of everything for active and not so active families. There are several places to go hiking at Mountain Goat Trail or Fiery Gizzard North Trailhead and fishing at the Falls at Sewanee Creek or Grundy Lake. Most tiny houses come w kayaks to take out on the water. There is Big Foot Adventure and Baggenstoss Farms that offer stocked ponds and ziplining.  www.bigfootadventuretn.com

For the foodies, our favorite local and casual spot is the Mountain Goat Market. This place has the best pizza, sandwiches, desserts, and ice cream in the area. Our family could eat there, breakfast, lunch, and dinner. www.mtgoatmarket.com When we stay at one of the tiny houses, this is one of our first stops to grab a pizza and fantastic bakery items for later, because they close early. Check the website before you go.

Next up, is in a little town next door called Sewanee. Also, home to the University of the South, which reminds me of Hogwarts with its fantastic architecture. This small and unique college town has one of the best burgers voted by Southern Living, and yes, it’s that good! You can grab one of these famous burgers at the Blue Chair Café and Tavern and don’t forget your Yazoo beer flight to wash it down. www.thebluechair.com

For a fancier experience with absolutely breath-taking views, I would suggest the Top of the Rock Restaurant and Brewery. This restaurant is good for lunch and dinner on the patio. Before or after, visit Pat’s Summitt, dedicated to the Hall-of-Fame University of Tennessee women’s basketball coach. Here, you can see views of the Tennessee River as well as Alabama and Georgia. It’s a one of kind experience and worth the short drive to Jasper Highlands in Jasper, Tn to experience.  https://topoftherockbrewery.com/

Click on any of the links above and book a unique glamping experience in East Tennessee. Grab a fishing pole or a board game and enjoy some quality time with your family. Go for a hike or get some delicious food with a view, and as always, Let’s make memories!
